Yamaha DX7 (and other patch-compatible synths like the Volca FM and Dexed) Future support planned for the YM2612 and OPL2 synthesizer chips. Thanks to Bobby Blues' All The Web Patches Collection and BlackWinny from kvraudio for providing the public domain patches used here. DX7 synth extracted from Matt Montag's dx7-synth-js. However, he was unable to try the cartridge patches, as he didn't have a RAM cartridge to write them to. Yamaha DX7s SysEx file downloads To download all the internal and cartridge voice and performance patches, packaged in a single ZIP file, use the 'Yamaha DX7s SysEx voice and performance files' link. Patch and emulate the original DX7 sound. Imported DX7 presets appear as subitems in the DX7 menu. (-1-) Dave Benson - DX7 - 7296 Presets for Sytrus (228 Banks) SYX files. About the project:
The Yamaha Reface DX is a great little synth and I love it. Butbefore I continue I want to make a few things clear. Don't believeeverything the ads and salesmen try to tell you! I know what I amtalking about:- The Reface DX is NOT a remake of the legendaryDX7
- The Reface DX is NOT compatible with 4-operator FMsynths from the past like the TX81Z, DX100, or DX9
- Therefore it is NOT possible to load patches from thosevintage Yamaha FM synths in a Reface DX
Did I say 'NOT possible'? I wanted to give it a try anyway. Someyears ago I started a Python project called DXconvert. The originalgoal was to be able to convert between the many different fileformats that people have used and use to save Yamaha DX7 SystemExclusive voicedata. Not much time later I started developingTXconvert to support 4-operator FM synths. Over time this projecthas grown to support hundreds of file formats and a whole family ofvintage FM synths.
When the Yamaha Reface DX arrived I immediately hoped to be ableto (re-)use my huge library of SysEx patches for 4-operator FMsynths that I had collected since I bought my first Yamaha synthsomewhere in the late 1980's. But because of the major differencesI had to put a lot of time and effort in expanding the conversionpower of my TXconvert software.
This website is the result of these efforts. I have (tried to)re-create the original patches from several vintage Yamaha (andKorg!) FM synths to System Exclusive files that can be loaded inthe Yamaha Reface DX.
How to load the patches in my Reface DX ?
I am getting a lot of questions about this. It seems working withSysEx dumps and files is less common in these days than it was inthe old days. For example Yamaha's Soundmondo website doesn't workwith SysEx files that you can save/load to/from your local harddiskbut is based on cloudstorage. And the soundmondo App for iOSdevices uses QR code images that you can scan to send the data toyour Reface DX.To handle SysEx files (*.syx) you use a universal SysEx dumputility. Universal meaning you can use it for any MIDI device thatcan send/receive SysEx data, not just the Reface.
If you need an offline editor/librarian for your Reface DX you candownload the Reface DX Editor Panel that I created for Ctrlr.
I have collected some linksto SysEx Dump Utilities for severalplatforms.Give it a try!
The patches are also provided as plain text files (*.txt)The text files show a list of all parameter values. You can enter the values by hand in your Reface DX for the best educational experience :-)
More more more patches!
Some people can never have enough patches. The Yamaha Soundmondo website offers thousands of free patches, created and uploaded by the user commmunity. For people preferring directly downloadable SysEx files I have created a pseudo-mirror site where all these patches are available as SYX or TXT files. To make things easier for you I have removed many of theduplicate patches. Get Free SysEx patches from Soundmondo now!Reface DX Factory Presets

Yamaha TX7 owners, please visit this page for details on our soundbanks designed specifically for the Yamaha TX7
IMPORTANT report regarding the DEXED Softsynth Emulator: We have tested the DEXED apps on both desktop and iOS. The desktop version (available here for free) works perfectly fine loading in our DX7 soundbanks and we recommend it. But you should AVOID the iOS version DEXED. DEXED for iOS DOES NOT WORK. It has very high latency rendering it unplayable, and the breath controller parameters and reception are non-functioning. Breath controller does NOT work at all with the iOS version of DEXED.

EWI Virtuoso Ed Calle Comments...'Your stuff is great. I am just starting to get the EWI back in shape for the new tour and will be using your sounds extensively. All the best.' - Ed Calle, Grammy Nominated, Sony Latin Recording Artist and wind controller virtuoso. Has worked with Steve Gadd, John Pattitucci, Arturo Sandoval, and many other top professionals |
'Thanks so much for DX7 Volume 3. I really have no idea how you did all that, but the sounds play so, so well with a wind controller that it's just mind-boggling. The analog emulations are especially a gas. Layering these with my EWI modules has a stupendous effect because the FM synthesis layer adds a grainy 'warmth' to the overall sound.'
'This is a wonderfully useful set of breath controlled sounds from the best programers in the world. Thanks guys!'
Please note: Email Delivery Only. These soundbanks are NOT available on DATA CARTRIDGE.
Formats: These soundbanks are available in Sysex (.SYX) file and Standard Midifile (.MID) formats for Mac/PC. You will get both formats with your order.
