Scanner Error is a common fault with the Hewlett Packard LaserJet 3030 series printers.

  1. TURN THE PRINTER OFF and remove the power cord.
  2. Remove the keyboard cover, unclip by lifting the front upwards (see Fig.1 arrows).
  3. Remove the keyboard, unclip and slide sideways and then up and off (see Fig.2).
  4. Remove the scanner top screws (see Fig.1 Circles).
  5. Remove the scanner assembly cover (see Fig.3).
  6. Clean all mirrors ( a torch is a good way to see the film that you need to remove). Warning: the mirror and the scanner are surface coated and are easily scratched or damaged. Usually a clean dry cloth is all that is needed to clean the mirrors (see Fig.4).
  7. Refit the scanner cover.
  8. Clean the underside of the scanner glass, taking note and removing any little bits of paper jammed in the frame, as these can cause the scanner to miss read its location.
  9. Inspect the registration strip (A long white strip on the far end of the glass). This can only be seen from the underside of the scanner glass (see Fig.5).
  10. Refit scanner glass.
  11. Refit keyboard.
  12. Refit keyboard cover.
  13. Plug in, power up, and test.
